The Apartheid - Cry Freedom - A time to kill - OUTLINE

The Apartheid
Cry Freedom
A time to kill

Starting Topic: Segregation

Limited Topic: Consequences on people’s reactions

Thesis Statement: People’s reactions towards coloured people may be harmful.

For much of the 20th century, it was a popular belief among many whites that the presence of blacks in a white neighbourhood would bring down property values. So, blacks would hardly ever get loans in the nice areas of town, because it would lower the property value. There were also different drinking fountains for blacks. Moreover, white and black people would sometimes be required to eat separately and use separate schools, public toilets, park benches, train and restaurant seating. In addition, it was forbidden for stores or restaurants to serve different races under the same roof.  All these facts show how people’s reactions towards coloured people may be harmful.

Topic Sentence (2nd paragraph): Due to segregation many innocent people have to pay for the consequences.

Topic Sentence (3rd paragraph): Having certain beliefs lead to different segregation acts.

Topic Sentence (4th paragraph): People in power act cruelty.

Topic Sentence (5th paragraph): If some people had not been so cruel, many innocent people would be living in peace now.
